Archaeology Hike led by Dr. Phil Wanyerka focusing on the RHP's past and how the Native Americans used this land for 13,000 years. The Friends of Richfield Heritage Preserve are holding an Archaeology Hike on Sunday, July 17, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. which will begin by The Lodge at Richfield Heritage Preserve (4374 Broadview Road). Led by Dr. Phil Wanyerka---a Senior College Lecturer in the Department of Criminology, Anthropology & Sociology at Cleveland State University---it will focus on the park’s rich ancient Native American past and how the first inhabitants used this land for some 13,000 years as well as reaped the rewards it provided to them. Dr Wanyerka will share prehistoric tools and other artifacts to demonstrate how the Native Americans in this area lived and what daily life must have been like for them. Dr. Wanyerka is an archaeologist and expert Classic Mayan epigrapher, someone who reads and deciphers ancient hieroglyphic inscriptions, who works in Central America. In addition, he has spent more than 30 years conducting archaeological investigations at numerous prehistoric and historic sites throughout the Woodlands of Eastern North America---specializing in the archaeology and prehistory of the Cuyahoga Valley.
