A series of stories, topics and themes that can at once appear familiar yet alien depending on your perspective and lived experiences. See More Than... Shorts Package 1 presents: HUMAN (Dir. Erin Brown Thomas; USA; 4 min) - An aerial art film exploring our culture's obsession with the limelight. Filmed and produced in Salida. CHILDREN WILL LEAD THE WAY (Dir. Beth Gage, George Gage; USA; 5 min) - Surviving students of school Gun violence work through their grief , horror and loss, by learning to write and perform original songs under the tutorship of volunteer professionals. LEARNING TO DROWN (Dir. Ben Knight; USA; 40 min) - Learning to Drown follows the life and career of professional snowboarder Jess Kimura as she unapologetically shatters stereotypes with her own brand of unwavering determination and go-for-broke mentality. STORIES WITHIN (Dir. PJ Raval; USA; 10 min) - Featuring a diverse collective of stories from the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) experience, the piece allows 14 individuals from the AAPI community in Austin the opportunity to speak to their younger selves about the acts of racism and discrimination they’ll face and messages of empowerment to bring with them to the present. BREAKING TRAIL (Dir. Jesse Roesler; USA; 30 min) - Emily Ford sets out with Diggins, a borrowed Alaskan Husky sled dog, to become the first woman and person of color to thru-hike the 1,200-mile Ice Age Trail in winter. Emily and her canine protector develop an unbreakable bond as they embrace the unexpected kindness of strangers and discover they’ve become figureheads in the movement to make the outdoors more accessible for everyone. Film tickets available for pick-up at the SteamPlant Box Office beginning Monday, May 9 and up until the start of this screening.
