Also called August Eve, Lughnasa, Lughnasadh, Cerealia and the Assumption of Mary, August 1. This is the first harvest festival and the peak of the Tide of Fire—also called the Tide of Consolidation. One of the Witch’s Great Sabbats. This is the time of the grain goddesses, earth mothers, and the dark side of nature. The God represents the slain king myths like Tammuz and Ishtar, or Isis and Osiris. Lammas is a time of gratitude and service. The magical sacrifice is kept in mind as a desire for continued blessings, true love, kinship, and community. Witches use this time as a reminder to serve humanity and focus on its abundance, protection, guidance, and health.
