MINEOLA, NY—Nassau County announced Thursday that a Nassau County resident who was being tested for the Coronavirus has, in fact, tested negative. To date, county officials say they have tested six people for the virus and all have tested negative. During a news conference Wednesday, Nassau County officials said 83 people were possibly exposed to the COVID-19 virus, which is caused by a member of the coronavirus family and is a close cousin to the SARS and MERS viruses that have caused outbreaks in the past. More than 75 people still remain under voluntary isolation, according to ABC 7 News. "Nassau County continues to be in close procedural coordination with state and federal partners in order to ensure the health and safety of all residents," county officials said in a news release. County officials say they will continue to follow state and federal guidelines in monitoring travelers that fall under the federal travel order. Currently, Commissioner Dr. Larry Eisenstein and the health department are asking people to remain calm and attentive and to practice general sanitary precautions. CDC guidelines emphasize washing hands with soap and water, using hand sanitizer, covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing and avoiding contact with others when sick.
