WILMINGTON, MA — A GoFundMe set up for a Wilmington family who lost their home to a fire has raised $59,540, as of Monday afternoon — just one day after it was launched.
A two-alarm fire rendered the home of the Hurley family uninhabitable, Saturday. A day later, Kristin Burns set up a GoFundMe for the family. Currently, the fundraiser goal is $65,000.
No one was injured in the fire, according to the fundraiser description. But the family, with four children and a dog, need to find a home amid the pandemic.
"If you can, please contribute to this amazing family so they can rebuild and become even stronger than before," Burns wrote.
The Wilmington Apple, which first reported on the GoFundMe, said Fire Chief William Cavanaugh said the home was uninhabitable due to smoke damage.
