Description

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington police warned of a recent online order scam, Sept. 20. The scammers are using a resident's identity to target other locals with phishing emails, to steal their credit and debit card information. Targets receive what appears to be an online order confirmation from Zappos or Paypal, for an order they did not make. The order encourages targets to "verify their information" if they did not make the order, but the link is designed to steal their information. Anyone who has clicked on the link and entered their information has likely had their bank or credit card information stolen, and should contact their financial service providers and visit identitytheft.gov, the police said. The resident whose information is being used is another victim, not the perpetrator, the police said. Christopher Huffaker can be reached at 412-265-8353 or [email protected].
