Press release from the County of Dane: May 5, 2022 The Dane County Board of Supervisors will meet on tonight at 7:00 – the first meeting of the 2022-2024 Board term. At the meeting, the County Board will consider a resolution that, if approved, will provide $15,000 towards an indoor sports facility feasibility study. The study is being completed by the Madison Area Sports Commission. "I'm grateful for the partnership with the Madison Area Sports Commission, and I'm excited for the potential to make Dane County a competitive destination for amateur and youth sports," said County Board Chair Patrick Miles. "This study is a necessary first step to see if this type of facility is an option." The Madison Area Sports Commission (MASC) was founded in 2010 by Destination Madison as the greater Madison area's official sports marketing organization. MASC represents Dane County's passion for sports, bringing diverse events such as IRONMAN, CrossFit, curling, boxing, pickleball and hockey tournaments, and unique sports like Quidditch, competitive yoga and disc golf to our communities. MASC's work impacts the regional economy while serving the unique needs of the sports tourism business. MASC was named 2018 Sports Commission of the Year by the National Association of Sports Commissions. "We are thankful for the County's financial support of the Sports Facility Feasibility study. Sports is not only a passion for those of us who live in Dane County, it is a significant economic driver that infuses small businesses, restaurants, and hotels with visitor spending," said Ellie Westman Chin, President and CEO of Destination Madison, parent organization of the Madison Area Sports Commission. "This support will allow for more data collection, research, and identification of facility gaps, increasing Dane County's ability to be a competitive player in the sports events arena."
