NEW YORK CITY — A toxic brew of irrational occult fears may have led to the shocking daylight shooting of an NYPD officer's mother in Queens, according to reports. Accused killer Giuseppe Canzani, 41, told police after his arrest that victim Anna Torres, 51, was a "witch," prosecutors said during a Thursday court hearing, according to the New York Post. Prosecutors said Canzani reputedly confessed three times to killing Torres, who was a tarot card reader, the Post reported. A judge ordered Canzani held without bail until his trial on a murder charge, according to the report. The hearing provided more details about what prosecutors believe motivated the fatal shooting of Torres, who was fatally shot Wednesday while answering a knock on her door in Ozone Park. Both the Post and the Daily News reported that police sources are eyeing tensions over Torres' tarot readings as a potential motive. Canzani will be mentally evaluated after a his defense attorney successfully asked for one, the Post reported. Read the full New York Post report here.
