MINEOLA, NY — For the first time in history, a Mineola High School senior has been named an All-National musician by the National Association for Music Education for 2020.
Ana Victoria Serna was selected for the All-National Honors Mixed Chorus, the district announced Friday. All-National musicians are chosen from students who previously made All-State.
These students then work with their music teacher to submit a video recording of themselves to be used as a blind audition.
Serna is a singer, specifically an alto.
"I've been a singer for pretty much my whole life," she told Patch in a direct message over Twitter. "My earliest memory is standing up on a desk in kindergarten singing songs from 'Annie' with my teacher!"
The All-National ensemble typically comes together for a performance in Orlando, Florida. Due to the pandemic, it will be held virtually this year.
