MANASSAS, VA — Prince William County firefighters responded to homes in Manassas and Haymarket on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning when fires broke out, authorities said. One firefighter was injured on Friday morning while combatting the fire in Haymarket. On Thursday afternoon, crews responded to a home in the 9000 block of Lomond Drive. When they arrived on the scene, firefighters saw heavy fire emitting from the back of the home. No one was home when the blaze began, the fire department said. The fire displaced two people who are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. A building official declared the home unsafe to occupy, and the fire marshal's office said the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. At that time, crews responded to a home in the 4000 block of Gypsum Hill Road in Haymarket. When they arrived on the scene, first responders saw heavy fire showing from a detached two-story garage, authorities said in a report. The garage sustained major damage, the fire department said. One firefighter was taken to a medical facility for an injury, but officials said the injury was not life-threatening. The fire marshal's office determined that the fire was caused by a heat lamp.
