Press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office: May 5, 2022 Jefferson County, CO. – Just before midnight on May 4, 2022, JeffCom911 received a call from a male who reported that he was being followed. The caller pulled in to the parking lot at Vasa Fitness located at 8055 W. Bowles Ave. and waited for deputies to arrive. The first deputy arrived on scene a couple of minutes later and contacted an adult male. During the course of their conversation, the male began acting suspiciously and making erratic statements. The suspect then suddenly and without provocation, attacked the deputy. The deputy was able to push the suspect backwards, at which time the suspect produced a knife and advanced towards the deputy a second time. The deputy fired several shots at the suspect, causing him to fall to the ground. The deputy held him at gunpoint until additional deputies arrived on scene. The suspect continued to actively resist arrest, but was eventually taken into custody. The suspect was transported by ambulance to an area hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect is identified as Mark Madera (DOB 080491), he is currently in critical condition. Jefferson County, CO.
