WASHINGTON, DC — The new press secretary for President Joe Biden is a Long Islander.
Karine Jean-Pierre will become the first Black and first openly gay person in that position.
She also has strong ties to Nassau County.
Jean-Pierre, who grew up in Hempstead, is a former track standout at Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale and a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, Newsday reported.
She'll succeed Jen Psaki on May 13.
Jean-Pierre, as deputy press secretary, has filled in for Psaki at the White House podium previously.
Psaki officially passed the baton to Jean-Pierre during Thursday's media briefing.
