Garden City PD Issue Dozens Of Tickets In Safe Driving Campaign

GARDEN CITY, NY — From April 25 through 29, the Garden City Police Department participated in the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee's No Empty Chair Campaign, which is an enforcement and education initiative that promotes safe driving habits of young drivers — particularly in the vicinity of area schools, school walking zones, and bus stops. The goal of the campaign is to ensure that students develop safe driving habits that will allow them to attend their proms and graduation ceremonies. According to the CDC, car crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. In 2019, 2,400 teens were killed in vehicle crashes while 258,000 teens were injured. During this campaign, the Garden City Police Department focused its efforts on the enforcement of excessive speeds, unsafe driving, seatbelt use, cell phone and texting violations, passing stopped school bus violations, and underage drinking.
