VCPWA to host one of Ventura's Largest Annual Educational Event

The Ventura County Public Works Agency (VCPWA) is celebrating the resilience of its staff with its annual educational event for National Public Works Week (NPWW) 2022. Based on the hugely successful virtual Public Works Week in 2021 when over 1,500 Ventura County students took part, this year's event promises to be even better. On Monday, May 16th, 2022, students, faculty, and the public can access a robust curriculum featuring new video demonstrations, educational materials, and interactive projects via the VCPWA website. The American Public Works Association's 2022 theme, "Ready & Resilient" illuminates the superheroes that lie within each Ventura County Public Works professional. Always READY to serve their communities, and RESILIENT as ever in their abilities to work in all weather, rain, snow, or drought, and despite these challenges, Public Works Agencies keep our counties moving. "We're excited to host our 11th Public Works Week. We have, again, many new innovative digital projects and demonstration videos for K- 12 students," says Jeff Pratt, Director of the VCPWA. "Ventura County educators helped to inform the curriculum for this year's Public Works Week, so we can be sure that students, faculty, and community members will find useful, educational, and engaging content, suitable for all ages, and for the many career opportunities at the County and VCPWA." This year, the event will include new content, here a few examples: Central Services Interviews with current student workers on their experiences Safety procedures at work The faces of VCPWA's IT department Engineering Hazards of soil liquefaction and potential mitigation techniques Roads and Transportation How traffic signals keep us safe Water and Sanitation Testing water meters Making the most out of reclaimed water Watershed Protection Channel cleanout and how we keep water flowing to the ocean The VCPWA team encourages anyone and everyone to join the event and learn more about the work they do in our county.
