LOUISVILLE, KY — The top thoroughbreds in horse racing will compete Saturday at Churchill Downs in Lousiville for the 148th Run for the Roses. In a packed field of 20 horses, eight of them stand out as potential winners of the Kentucky Derby. Whatever horse wins Saturday's race will be a top contender for thoroughbred horse racing's coveted Triple Crown. The race will only last about two minutes, but there are several standout horses ready to outpace the others in the mile and quarter race to win the $3 million purse. The Horses And Their Positions 1. Mo Donegal 2. Happy Jack 3. Epicenter 4. Summer is Tomorrow 5. Smile Happy 6. Messier 7. Crown Pride 8. Charge It 9. Tiz the Bomb 10. Zandon 11. Ethereal Road Taiba Taiba may not be as experienced as some of the other horses in the field, but won his debut race and the Santa Anita Derby in April. Taiba will be racing from the 12th position in Saturday's race with jockey Mike E. Smith. Most recently winning the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes in April, Zandon will be running in the Kentucky Derby in 10th position with jockey Flavien Prat. Steve Asmussen, the horse's trainer, has never won the derby and Epicenter might just be his best bet. Epicenter has a winning track record and great odds to win Saturday's race. White Abarrio's has a good chance of taking home the victory after winning the Holy Bull Stakes and the Curlin Florida Derby. The bay colored colt has won the Remsen Stakes and the Wood Memorial S. and might just be the horse to beat. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel) Cyberknife His odds may not be as great as Epicenter and Mo Donegal's, but Cyberknife has a Grade I stakes victory under his belt. Cyberknife recently won the Arkansas Derby in April. He'll be ridden by jockey Florent Geroux in the 16th position. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel) Messier Messier has won the Robert B. Lewis Stakes and placed second in the Santa Anita Derby, making him another top contender for Saturday's race. Messier will be ridden by John R. Velazquez in the sixth position.
