Press release from the City of Hermosa Beach: April 28, 2022 Summary of Ordinance No. 22-1445 Ordinance Amending Various Sections of Chapter 12.20 of the Hermosa Beach Municipal Code Regarding activities and behavior on the beach and the Strand: Ordinance No. 22-1445 will amend various sections of Chapter 12.20 (Beach and Strand Regulations) to the Hermosa Beach Municipal Code regarding beach and Strand regulations. Section 12.20.060 (Activities, Sports and Conduct on the Beach and the Strand) is being amended to update and modernize activities, sports, and conduct on the beach and the Strand to, among other things, prohibit any conduct on the Strand or beach that constitutes a nuisance or hazard, prohibit sports or activities on the beach within 50 feet of the strand wall, and require the removal or all equipment and personal property daily unless approved by the City. Section 12.20.080 (Beach Equipment) is deleted in its entirety as this topic is addressed in section 12.20.060. Section 12.20.100 (Changing clothing) is similarly deleted in its entirety regarding the changing of clothing on the beach or in the City. Finally, section 12.20.330 (Tents) is being amended to prohibit the use of tents or other temporary coverings or shelters within ten (10) feet of the Strand and requires there be an unobstructed view into all tents from at least one side. The City Council adopted this Ordinance at the April 26, 2022 City Council Meeting, and will be effective thirty days thereafter.
