PENN HILLS, PA — High school students in Penn Hills will have to no access to their phones during the school day next year, multiple media outlets report.
Students will store their phones and electronic devices in a special pouch that the school board will buy for each student, WTAE reported.
The pouch will lock, and only school administrators and security can unlock it for each student at the end of the day, WPXI reported.
The measure is designed to improve students' focus and mental health while they're in the school building, the WTAE report said.
Superintendent Nancy Hines told WPXI this may cut down on student violence, and said she hopes it helps students reset.
