PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh activists are planning a rally in support of Roe v. Wade on Saturday, and say the potential overturning of the 1973 case will "disproportionately affect" people of color and members of the LGBTQ community.
The "Rally for Roe" is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 from 3-5 p.m. on Freedom Corner, lead by local organizations. SisTers PGH, Radical Youth Collective, and Pittsburgh Feminists for Intersectionality are organizing the event, according to social media.
"We know this issue didn't escalate overnight; it's happening after years of blatant misogynistic, sexist, and oppressive language promulgated by a racist, and reactionary political faction in America," organizers wrote on Facebook. "This threat toward Birthing People across all intersections, but assuredly one that will disproportionately affect members of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, comes after decades of reproductive and health access failures that existed across both aisles."
