(News 24/680)Agamroop Kaur of San Ramon has been named the Barrie Fiske National Youth Advocate of the Year by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids! She has authored op-eds and produced a documentary on the youth e-cigarette epidemic – titled "BIG Tobacco BIGGER Epidemic" – that won a prize in C-SPAN's student documentary contest. Agamroop also worked on successful campaigns in five California cities and Contra Costa County to end the sale of flavored e-cigarettes and other tobacco products, expand smoke-free policies and limit tobacco retailers in youth centered areas. Concord High soccer's Bianca Avila was tabbed Diablo Athletic League (DAL) Valley Division girls co-most valuable player and Alex Hockenbery was named boys Valley defensive MVP. Clayton Valley Charter's Adam Rychtecky was named the DAL Foothill boys soccer defensive MVP, College Park's Benjamin Lucha won DAL Valley soccer offensive MVP and Mt. Diablo's Yasmine Garrett took home the prize as the DAL Valley girls basketball co-MVP. (Pioneer Publishers)Highway 24 at the northbound 680 connector was closed for a time on Wednesday afternoon as police worked to make contact with a white male that was standing in the center divide. It appeared that the man was having a mental health crisis, so police made the decision to shut down the freeway to help him. At 5:30 PM the pedestrian was taken into custody peacefully and will receive the medical assistance he needs.
