Press release from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: 5/6/2022 Butler High senior Grace Allen is best known for her love of reading. "I like to read – it's what I'm known for," Grace said. The 17-year-old has been an outstanding student during her tenure at Butler and will have completed 14 Advanced Placement (AP) courses by the time she graduates. Despite the heavy workload, Grace said the AP courses have helped her develop the study skills that she will need in college. Grace is heavily involved in extracurricular activities at Butler. She is a member of the D.R.E.A.M. Team, a group of student athletes who participate in training sessions that include effective communication skills and presentation methods, role modeling, mentoring and positive lifestyle choices. She is also the co-founder and president of Butler's Creative Writing Club. If that wasn't enough to keep her busy, Grace finds time to be president of Butler's Anime Club, an officer for the National Honor Society and a Key Club and Math Honor Society member. Butler Principal Vince Golden said Grace represents what Butler holds to be most important. "Grace has always exemplified great character and is a peer role model for her fellow students,'' said Golden. "She is an excellent student and person who will positively impact the world in the near future." Grace also participated in athletics during her four years at Butler, playing on the varsity women's golf team and qualifying for regionals all four years. More recently, she has been a member of the school's varsity swim and dive team. Away from school, Grace has committed herself to being a good steward. She enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering at First Tee of Greater Charlotte. "Being able to give back to the community for the past four years by teaching children the game of golf has been absolutely amazing," she said. So what's next on the horizon? Grace has set her sights on Virginia. She is attending the University of Richmond this fall and hopes to major in economics or computer science, or maybe double major in those concentrations. And as for her plans after college, she's keeping her options open.. but says she could see herself working for a U.S. Federal Reserve Bank.
