WEYMOUTH, MA — The South Shore Hospital cancer center reopened on Tuesday one day after an air handler malfunction forced the evacuation of one of the buildings on the Columbian Street campus. The Dana-Farber/Brigham & Women's Hospital affiliated center closed on Monday when reports of smoke in the fourth floor of the building forced an evacuation. The building remained closed through the afternoon with appointments canceled and access to the parking garage restricted. Hospital officials said normal appointments resumed as of Tuesday morning. "Thank you to our colleagues and our first responders for safely evacuating the facility yesterday, and for ensuring the building is safe for patients today," South Shore Hospital said in a statement on Tuesday morning. The Dana-Farber Brigham and Women's Cancer Center in Clinical Affiliation with South Shore Hospital will resume normal operations today. All appointments will go on as scheduled. pic.twitter.com/CK413RzCpM— South Shore Health (@southshorehosp) August 25, 2020
