Weymouth Restaurant Owners Safe, Sharing Humor After Blaze

WEYMOUTH, MA — The owners of the Newcomb's Breakfast & Lunch in Jackson Square in East Weymouth didn't lose their sense of humor, despite losing business at least in the short term, following a two-alarm fire Monday night. The Broad Street spot, which has been in business since 1926, sustained extensive damage in the fire that broke out Monday afternoon. The restaurant had been open during the new coronavirus health crisis offering takeout and delivering items ranging from lobster rolls to eggs Benedict. The owners had begun an online ordering system and posted on their Facebook page on April 7: "Going into week 3. Hope all is well. We are still vertical so I guess we are doing o.k." With the restaurant closed just one more than one month later due to the fire, the owners kept their sense of humor in letting customers know they are still doing OK: "We just want to take the time to say 'Thank You' to everyone who has reached out to us today. We came out of this horrible situation healthy and safe. We would like to thank the community for the love and out pouring of concern and well wishes. "The numerous messages that we have received today are overwhelming. We want to thank Weymouth, Hingham, Braintree and Quincy Fire Department for all that they did today."
