Incumbent Senator Running for Reelection in Georgia State Senate District 17 Gains the Endorsements of Sheriff Chapman, District Attorney McGinley, Representative Kirby and Commissioner Banks McDonough, Ga., May 6, 2022 (For Immediate Release) – Already a proven defender of constituents in Henry and Newton Counties, Incumbent Senator Brian Strickland of Georgia State Senate District 17 soon hopes to serve tens of thousands of new constituents following the 2022 election in November. On December 20, 2021, Governor Brian Kemp signed Georgia’s Senate district map into law, which redistricted parts of Walton and all of Morgan County into District 17. In 2023, the new district lines will encompass parts of Walton, Newton, Henry, and Morgan with over 150,000 registered voters. The area of Walton County that will now be part of District 17 was formerly represented by Burt Jones in District 25, along with the Loganville area that was previously represented by Bill Cowsert in District 46. As Walton County voters consider who will represent them in 2023-2024, Strickland is rapidly gaining the endorsements of his colleagues and key members of county leadership. In April 2022, Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman publicly endorsed Senator Strickland and issued a statement that read: “Brian is a conservative and a strong supporter of public safety. Brian will represent Walton County well in the state Senate. That’s why I support Brian Strickland for State Senate.” This week, District Attorney Randy McGinley also formally endorsed Sen. Strickland with the following statement: “Brian Strickland has been a champion for prosecutors and law enforcement in the State Senate. I watched him fight for Newton County as our State Senator and am proud to see his district extend into Walton County as well. My friends in Newton County know how he has stood up for us and fought for our values in Atlanta. I am proud to formally endorse Sen. Strickland for re-election and ask my constituents in Walton County to join me in helping make him our voice at the Gold Dome as well.” Walton County Commissioner Mark Banks and retiring Representative Tom Kirby join Sheriff Chapman and District Attorney McGinley in placing their names behind Brian Strickland. Both men issued statements which touted Strickland’s conservative record during his time in the legislature and his ability to be a strong voice for Walton County in Atlanta. “Brian Strickland is the right choice for State Senate for Walton County,” stated Commissioner Banks. “We need a strong Senator that can deliver for our county in Atlanta and will fight for our values. Brian has a proven record of taking on big issues and fighting in the trenches for our conservative values. I hope you will join me in voting for him to be our Senator in the Republican primary.” District 114 Representative, Tom Kirby, whose district covers portions of West Walton County, stated, “Brian Strickland is who Walton County needs in the State Senate. I served with Brian in the State House and know that he will stand up for our conservative values and be a strong voice for Walton County in Atlanta. Please join me in voting for Brian Strickland for State Senate.” A member of the Georgia General Assembly since 2013, Senator Strickland has represented District 17 in the State Senate since 2018. He currently serves as Chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee and boasts a solid record of record of fighting for lower taxes, a more robust business environment, and a smaller government. “It is my honor to have the support of these individuals that have dedicated so much of their lives to serving Walton County,” said Strickland. “These men are the heart of this community and I look forward to joining their team and continuing to fight for the values we share and deliver the support this community deserves at the state level.” Early voting for the State Senate Republican Primary started May 2 with election day approaching on May 24.
