Description
My name is David, and I have been playing music for twenty years. I studied in the undergraduate jazz program at Portland State University though I got my start playing classical clarinet music as part of the New World Symphony youth orchestra in Miami. I play jazz and bluegrass guitar, although I also have experience gigging in rock bands.
The focus of my curriculum is on ear training, theory, technique, idiom, repertoire, and a guitar-centric understanding of harmony. I teach both electric and acoustic guitar styles.
I begin with the Berklee “Modern Method for Guitar” series while also drawing heavily on transcription projects so that new guitarists learn to play what they hear while developing technique and understanding.
I charge $40/hour (or $35/half hour for students under 13 – longer sessions are often too stressful for younger learners.) I can travel to your home, we can meet at my house, or we can do virtual lessons. I provide printouts of lesson materials.
