LAKELAND, FL — The football season opening game for Lakeland High School has been cancelled due to a coronavirus case, school officials said.
Not only has the first game been suspended against George Jenkins, but the second game scheduled to play Plant City has also been cancelled.
The high school's entire football program is suspended until September 22, the Polk County Public Schools officials said.
It is unlikely the cancelled games will be rescheduled.
Due to privacy and medical records laws, Polk County Public Schools said it cannot identify anyone who has tested positive, or provide additional details about the coronavirus case that impacted the LHS football program.
