Description
WEYMOUTH, MA —With more than 90 percent of the precincts reporting 10-term incumbent James Murphy was headed to a comfortable victory against challenger Melissa Smith in the Democratic 4th Norfolk district race for state representative.
The Weymouth resident picked up 72.2 percent of the vote in the district made up of primarily Weymouth precincts. He was first elected to the seat in 2000.
Smith, who grew up in Georgia before moving to Hingham in 2011, had 27.8 percent of the vote with nearly 93 percent of the precincts reporting as of midnight.
Murphy will face Republican Paul Rotondo, a small business owner in Weymouth.
