WEYMOUTH, MA —Weymouth is the latest town in Massachusetts waging a battle against an excess of illegal fireworks. A number of cities and towns have seen an increase in complaints about fireworks this spring with many people spending more time at home and entertainment venues closed due to coronavirus. But fireworks remain illegal in Massachusetts, with Weymouth police now saying they will investigate reports as more residents report them. "Over the last week, the Weymouth Police Department has experienced an increase of calls for service for illegal fireworks," Weymouth police said. "This is a very serious issue and we want to remind everyone the negative impact it could have on your neighbors. Consider the damaging effects the noise may have on young children, the elderly, pets and most importantly those suffering from PTSD." While some view fireworks as a largely harmless exercise in fun, police want you to know that fun could come at a cost. "Individuals caught possessing and/or shooting off fireworks are subject to fines and arrest," Weymouth police said.
