WEYMOUTH, MA — Local law enforcement agencies and officials are playing tribute to Weymouth Sgt. Michael Chesna two years after he was shot and killed in the line of duty while pursuing a man suspected of also shooting and killing Weymouth resident Vera Adams as she sat in front of her home. Chesna, 42, responded to a call about vandalism near South Shore Hospital and was struck in the head and had his gun taken. He was then killed, along with Adams, 77. The suspect, Emmanuel Lopes, was charged with two counts of homicide. A U.S. Army Veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart, Chesna was survived by his wife and two children. "Sergeant Michael C. Chesna, you are not forgotten," Weymouth police said in their tribute on Wednesday. Other departments and local officials also remembered Sgt. Chesna and Adams on Wednesday.
