Description

A plant walk to learn about the plants where the city meets wilderness. Living in Portland, we are blessed with so much access to nature within our city. Errol Heights is a small wetland located in SE Portland, where we can find so many familiar plant friends. Our last plant walk was located in the Mississippi neighborhood, so this walk gives us an opportunity to see more wildlife in a different part of town. Together, we will identify and notice medicinal plants growing in this small ecosystem, just off a main road, and pay attention to how the surrounding neighborhood plays a part in it. Building relationships with the plants in one focused area is something we can take with us, when we familiarize ourselves with plants growing in our bioregion it can be used as a fun and reassuring grounding tool! This walk is geared towards beginners who are eager to start learning basic plant identification and medicinal herbs. We will be walking up and down hills that are relatively steep, though the route we will be walking is not very long in distance. Please make sure to buy a ticket for each adult attending. Thanks! Teacher Bio: Taught by Frankie Almutawa (she/they), an employee at The Herb Shoppe, and owner of Pastushka Herbal Celebrations, a small-batch apothecary with an emphasis on accessible herb education, hyperlocally grown plants, and building relationship with the land. Frankie offers classes, zines, products, and one-on-one herbal consultations. You can keep up on Instagram @pastushkaherbals.
