Retirement can be a stressful time as expectations, schedules, relationships and plans change. Retirement can be a stressful time as expectations, schedules, relationships and plans change. This Point Forward is presenting a workshop on May 18th on the mental health challenges facing retirees in their next phase of life and the opportunities to address them. A panel of experts will discuss with the audience common issues retirees often encounter and discuss successful ways to deal with them. Dr. Deepan Chatterjee is an award-winning clinical psychologist, speaker and writer based in Maryland. He has given invited talks at several institutional and academic settings, including the American Psychological Association, Maryland Psychological Association, Gallaudet University, Sheppard Pratt Hospital, and Baltimore Ethical Society, among others. He is a regular contributor to several media outlets, newspapers and blogs, including The Statesman, The Telegraph, The Baltimore Sun, India Abroad, The Huffington Post, Psych Central, India America Today and Altarum Institute’s Health Policy Forum, among others. Dr. Chatterjee is often asked for and has provided his expert analysis on various topics related to mental health and wellness for various news media outlets as well, including the Washingtonian, Care.com, The Baltimore Sun, among others. Lisa Pearson, LCSW-C I am a passionate clinical social worker practicing, leading and learning through collaboration to make change for individual, groups and families over the past 20+ years. For the past 9 years I have worked at Chase Brexton Health Care. As the Director of Behavioral Health, I am responsible for supporting, training and guiding the clinical practice and vision for our 3 county sites located in Howard County Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County. My work background includes settings in public schools, alternative education environments, domestic and international adoptions, residential treatment and inpatient psychiatric units as a therapist and administrator. Currently, I am serving as Vice Chair for Horizon Foundation Board of Trustees. I live work, play and pray in Howard County with my husband and our last of three young people in the nest. My professional mantra: When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows not the flower. -Alexander Den Heijer Swami Swaminathan Swami is a seasoned healthcare executive with growth, implementation oversight of various legislatively mandated programs, and improving operational efficiency. He formulates strategy, develop plans, lead implementations, and manage budges for federally mandated healthcare programs. Swami particularly leads and implemented various Healthcare initiatives on Quality Improvement, Risk Adjustment, Evaluation, Reviews and Program Integrity programs for various federal government healthcare agencies. Swami takes pleasure and is also very active in serving the community. He served for various non-profit organizations as a volunteer or volunteer-leader. He actively volunteers for causes that focuses on improving health or education. Presently Swami serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board, National Kidney Foundation (NKF), Maryland and Delaware. NKF is the largest advocacy organization in the country to raise awareness of kidney health. In this capacity, Swami provides thought leadership and leads the volunteer advisors to increase the awareness of kidney disease. Come and meet our speakers and ask them your questions!
