Description

The Polytech helps students ages 16-26 earn a diploma and succeed in transitioning to college, career, and adulthood. Neurodiverse welcome! Visit us the afternoon of May 19th to learn more about our one-on-one instruction programs to customize each student's need, and support services that can continue through age 26. In addition to all academic courses needed for graduation, The Polytech also offers many career-focused courses, such as Medical Terminology, Food Safety, and Website Design. Most recently, The Polytech added a driving simulator to help students build confidence with driving in a wide variety of traffic and weather conditions. "We specialize in serving anxious students and observed that many of our students did an excellent job on passing the state's written exam, but were very fearful of driving in an actual car. We decided to add a middle step and got a commercial-grade simulator to help students practice driving in the safety of our office, where it would be impossible for them to cause any damage while they learned," says Ruth Wilson, a board-certified educational therapist and one of the founders of The Polytech. All teachers at The Polytech have a minimum of a master's degree and experience working with students who are autistic, have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, or mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety. They routinely help students with standard transition skills like registering for college and signing up for accommodations, conducting a job search, and finding independent housing, so it was natural to add driving instruction. Having a driver's license is one of the key components of living independently and opens up many more social opportunities than those who must depend on parents and friends for a ride. We look forward to seeing you at our open house where you can talk with staff, see the facility, and watch simulator demos. Please come masked, or call 206.557.4646 to schedule a private meeting.
