EMDR Therapy with Transgender and Gender Diverse Clients June 9, 20223-6 PM Holiday Inn South Jordan10499 S Jordan Gateway, South Jordan, UT 84095 THE TRAININGTransgender and gender diverse (TGD) people sometimes experience gender dysphoria (GD) in addition to co-occurring issues like PTSD, depression, etc. While EMDR therapy has been adapted to help people with diverse experiences and identities and can treat these comorbidities, there is no EMDR protocol for conceptualizing and treating GD-related distress among TGD people. This TGD-affirming training seeks to educate and train EMDR clinicians to help people who experience distress from GD reduce their suffering and increase their self-worth and resilience. By completing this training, participants will be able to conceptualize GD through an adaptive information processing (AIP) lens and implement a model of EMDR therapy for reducing GD-related distress in TGD persons. THE TRAINERMichael Kuffel is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in downtown Boise, ID. They are genderqueer and use they/them/theirs pronouns. Michael is an EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist and Approved Consultant. They currently work in private practice and are pursuing a PhD in counselor education at Oregon State University, with a special interest in working with sexual and gender minorities. THE PROCESSOur Modern Advanced Trainings are designed to give you the skills you need today, to work with your clients tomorrow. We will be learning, demonstrating and coaching the specific and complicated experiences for the humans in your office. Not only will you leave with an understanding of the topic, you will have a chance to practice how to set it up and how to use it with your clients when you leave. ELIGIBILITYTo be eligible to attend this training, participants must have completed an EMDRIA Approved EMDR basic training course. Clinicians seeking to register must submit their EMDRIA Approved EMDR Training Certificate of Completion issued by their original training provider in order to prove their eligibility.
