Free Opioid Training, Narcan Kits Being Offered In Town Of Oyster Bay

OYSTER BAY, NY — As the country continues to grapple with the opioid crisis, Town of Oyster Bay officials will be offering opioid overdose response training and supplies to residents on Tuesday, May 17. The Town is partnering with Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence (LICADD) and Drug Free Long Island to offer the free training session. It takes place at the North Massapequa Community Center at 7 p.m. During the session, participants will learn how to administer Narcan, an opioid overdose-reversing drug that has saved countless lives. The nasal spray will be offered to those who successfully complete the course, free of charge. "Our Town has worked diligently to help address the ongoing opioid crisis on Long Island, making it one of our top priorities," said Town Councilwoman Laura Maier. "This seminar provides a great opportunity to learn how to safely and effectively reverse the fatal effects of an opioid overdose by administering a life-saving antidote, a skill we all hope we never have to use." Under New York State law, residents can administer Narcan in an attempt to save a life, without fear of liability. The training session on May 17 is available to all residents.
