Description
SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury police this week began a special enforcement program focused on seatbelt use.
The "click it or ticket" campaign will last through the end of May, and will feature Shrewsbury officers focused only on seatbelt enforcement. A state grant is paying for the special patrols, which will come on top of the regular number of officers on duty in a given day.
Shrewsbury will be among thousands of police departments across the nation focusing on seatbelt enforcement in May and especially around the Memorial Day holiday, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
No matter what age, every person riding in a vehicle in Massachusetts that was manufactured before 1966 must wear a seatbelt, per state law. Fines for violating the law start at $25.
