Description

The prevalent cocoon of anxiety that has recently immersed many of those I know, love and/or just observe is quietly beginning to fade with the miracle of May. May is a glorious month. For those who share my faith and allegiance to Mary, it is 31 days of tribute. For others, who profess a different belief, it is the promise of summer and the end of winter. However, in this year of our Lord, 2022, I believe that one and all of those I encounter, are suddenly embraced with a transparent garment of hope mixed with reality. We are becoming increasingly cognizant that the peril of the endlessly enlarging family of Covid seems here to stay. Yet, we realize to a great degree most of us have been able to cope. Also, we have begun to acknowledge with a sense of pride that "We made it." Covid may have crippled us as a nation, but, as yet, has not conquered. I optimistically, choose to believe, or possibly hope, that the rancor of recent political controversies has begun to fade. Voters will continue to support beliefs and candidates, but time and recent history has taught the majority of citizens an important lesson. History will reflect anger and vitriol served no one and solved no problems. Sensible citizens will quietly listen when either their party, candidate or both are vilified in print, TV and/or conversation. Then they will speak without shouting through their vote, I also want to believe youth has learned a lesson from the enforced isolation. Their generation became far more self reliant due to necessity. They practiced confinement at an early age, often self inflicted with masks. and as youngsters were instructed to maintain caution to avoid infection Now I must admit it may be the butterfly landing on my window, or just the absence of snow, but I am joyous welcoming another month of May, because in the words of another: "There is but one May in the year / Before the year grows old."
