“Life is short. The world is big. Make it happen.”
Following closely to the wise words of Eric Janssen, that’s what we plan to do.
Unintentionally started by Miami’s own Johnny Meant (@johnnymeant) in 2015, the very first Meet Up was an excuse for creatives to get together and explore the city without limits. It didn’t matter how old you were, where you came from, or your expertise with a camera-everyone was accepted.
Roughly 9 people wandering the city in 2015 multiplied to 40 the next year. Come 2017, Eric Janssen’s impact on Memphis’ photography scene turned the “Grind City Meet” into an anticipated day overflowing the Memphis streets with 150+ creatives exploring the city. Today, the community is 300+ people deep with no intentions of slowing down.
After we lost our dear friend Eric Janssen ( www.instagram.com/@webraw ) to a 16 story fall from a rooftop in Chicago, the community turned upside-down. Eric's mission on this earth was complete- to inspire hundreds of people from all over the world to be curious, take risks, make everyone you meet feel accepted, and to Live a Great Story every chance you get. Although he is now watching down on us from above, the spark he ignited in the photography community is steadily spreading like a wild fire.
We are his legacy- the creatives of Memphis who don't take no for an answer. The ones who live to show off the parts of Memphis that your average suburban-dwelling local will never get curious enough to explore. The ones who swear by this city of Grit & Grind believing just how different this place is than any other city in the world. But most importantly, the ones who will never stop.
We're just getting started Memphis- are you ready?
