We welcome back Olena Lennon, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor of Political Science and National Security at the University of New Haven, and Eastern Ukraine native, for Part 2 of her talk about the headlines we're all reading. As Russia's brutal full-scale war on Ukraine continues, featuring indiscriminate bombardments of Ukraine's cities, residential buildings, hospitals and schools, many have struggled to understand why Putin has resorted to such gruesome means and what this war achieves. Olena Lennon's talk will attempt to shed some light on the historical roots of the war, why it has escalated, what might happen next, and why the world should care. Speaker BioOlena Lennon, Ph.D. is an Adjunct Professor of Political Science and National Security at the University of New Haven, where she teaches such courses as the U.S. Foreign and Defense Policy, International Relations, and Comparative Politics. An Eastern Ukraine native, she also serves as a co-editor of an online scholarly forum "Eyes on Donbas: Politics, Places, and People" at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. Formerly a Fulbright scholar and most recently a Title VIII Scholar at Woodrow Wilson Center's Kennan Institute in Washington, D.C., Olena has dedicated her research to domestic and international politics of Ukraine, as well as Eurasian geopolitics and security writ large.
