Volunteer(s) Needed
The Problem
Latino gardeners use gas-powered tools that are extremely hazardous. They cause hearing loss, lung disease, cancer, and other serious illnesses.
Electric tools do the same job at a lower cost. They are also much safer: half the noise and zero emissions.
Gardeners are not aware of these health hazards, and they believe it’s impossible to do their work with electric tools.
Gas tools are also massively polluting and have outsized contributions to global warming.
My Proposal
I’d like help testing these tools and understanding how gardeners might need to adapt to them.
I’d like help connecting with gardeners. I’d like to offer electric tool demonstrations and get gardener feedback. I’d also like to hear about their businesses and what would help them.
Who I am Looking For
Someone who cares about their community and wants everyone to contribute at their creative best. You’re a gardener yourself, and you’re curious about electric tools. You have a friend or family member in the gardening industry. You're in the San Mateo area and climate and public health are your jam. In any case, you’re bilingual Spanish/English and this sounds like a cool project to you.
Who I am
I am a San Mateo resident who has seen enough suffering from the noise and fumes of gas tools.
I’ve deeply researched this problem. I know what I’m talking about.
I believe our communities can be quieter, safer, and more equitable.
