Description

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police routinely take reports of scams on residents. Here is information on the two latest ones: A resident in the 400 block of Cottage Hill Avenue told police Monday that he received a letter from a company requesting that he perform services as a mystery shopper. He was promised he would receive a check deposited into his bank account. He was told he would be compensated for buying gift cards. The check did not clear, and the resident was out the money spent on the gift cards. Virtually all offers involving gift cards are scams.A resident in the 300 block of South Arlington told police Tuesday that she gave her personal information in response to what she thought was a text message from UPS. She now has unauthorized purchases on her debit card. The bank has been reversing the charges. The victim flagged her accounts with credit bureaus.
