PORTLAND, OR — The majority of COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Oregon during April occurred in people who were fully vaccinated, according to a report released Thursday by the Oregon Health Authority.
The report found that 9,769 of the 18,608 cases – or 52.5 percent – diagnosed last month occurred in people with a complete COVID-19 vaccine. Of those, 6,142 cases occurred in people who had been fully vaccinated and boosted.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers a person fully vaccinated 14 days after their "dose of an accepted single-dose vaccine" or 14 after their second dose of "an accepted 2-dose series."
OHA said that only 2.6 percent of all vaccine breakthrough cases resulted in hospitalization and only 0.6 percent resulted in death.
The median age of vaccinated people who died is 80 years old.
