ATLANTA, GA — A student at Druid Hills High School in Atlanta was arrested Thursday after the school went into lockdown and Emory University students and staff were told to shelter in place because of a possible armed suspect in the area. The student was arrested around 4 p.m. and will be charged with aggravated assault and carrying a gun in a school safety zone, DeKalb County School District Police Chief Bradley Gober said at a news conference. Other students reported to school officials that they thought the student brought a gun to school. Officers couldn't find the student on the school's campus, leading to a search in the surrounding area, police said. Emory police found the student on the university campus after searching for hours. Druid Hills High School students went into lockdown at 10:40 a.m., and the lockdown was lifted at 12:10 p.m., according to a CBS 46 Atlanta report. An all-clear was later given at Emory University, according to university officials. Emory University officials said in a since-deleted tweet there were reports of an active shooter on the main campus of Emory University. There was no active shooter, the school clarified in a later tweet. Emory University police were on scene at Druid Hills High School on the Emory University campus in Atlanta, according to an Emory Alert posted on the Emory Police Department website. Police reported a "possible armed subject" and people in the area were urged to shelter in place, according to the alert. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
