Turtle Society meeting this Saturday with an amazing speaker in Catonsville, MD.
Please save the date for the next MATTS meeting on Saturday, May 7, 2022 starting at 6 pm for MATTS members in-person at the Banneker Museum, located at 300 Oella Avenue in Catonsville, Maryland, and also accessible for non-member in-person at 7 pm.
MATTS members are invited to meet-n-greet starting at 6 pm.
We will start our regular business meeting at 7 pm, followed by a presentation by Peter Paul van Dijk on "Gardening for Box Turtles in the Mid-Atlantic".
Dr. van Dijk is a noted turtle expert, serving as the Senior Director (Wildlife Trade) at Re:wild, as Conservation Programs Director at the Turtle Conservancy, and as Deputy Chair, IUCN SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group. He will lead an interactive conversation about how we can locally support native biodiversity, turtles, and all other wildlife through our gardening practices. Together we will discuss how, with a little bit of care, attention and consideration, we can (and should) make greenspaces more inclusive for wildlife. In particular, maintenance of private gardens and local community parks can contribute greatly to biodiversity survival as well as human well-being.
