This year eCommerce has become very important to our country. With the whole COVID-19 Pandemic it is more important than ever to be able to buy things online. This whole area has actually made up for the loss of brick and mortar sales and eCommerce has soared to almost 20% growth in the last quarter alone in the United States. That means that selling online is not only a big thing, but it is really here to stay. This is the 6th major month of COVID-19 and online sales are still souring to new heights. The thing that I have learned is that selling online is complicated. I have been doing it for about a decade now and was one of the first Amazon sellers. It was much more simple to sell back then, but eBay is now the easy way for a regular person to sell goods. But don't get hosed. There are a lot of ways to lose money when selling on eBay. The first way to lose money and to end up regretting the whole thing is to fail on shipping. If you don't already know shipping is never free. The cost to actually go to the post office or UPS is time and money. The box you are putting your product in or the bag costs money. If you have to ensure that it makes it safely you may end up stuffing that package with items to keep everyone safe. The packaging supplies cost of shipping is not a small amount. This is something that you must either build into the price of your item to sell or the shipping of it. The extra costs could take out your entire profit margin in the sale. I have been there before and done that. I was not very happy when shipping internationally cost me 50 bucks. So don't forget about packaging supplies and don't let them ruin your experience and margins. Now another thing to think about when selling on eBay is the fees that are involved. If you didn't know eBay takes a 10% commission on anything that is sold. So you will automatically lose 10% of your sale price. That is not a small amount and that is not all. The payment processing device will take another 3% of your profit from you as well. I have had some good sales that I thought were going to be nice and after 13% or even 15% of large processing fees are now taken away from you the profit is now much smaller. Many people think they are getting a good deal and you are actually losing a lot of money. So do not get hosed by eBay, make sure your prices reflect that extra cost involved in selling on eBay. Ecommerce is not free and cheap. Now using the right titles is also important. eBay may actually give bad suggestions. So look around and see where the vast majority of people are selling similar items. If it gives you a category that is not what people are actually searching than chose your own. This is important your item may never get seen if it is not in the right category. If you sell a knife and it ends up it classic items, then you will never sell it. I hope these tips save your selling!
