Westat is seeking Veterans or Active-Duty Service Members who served in Iraq, Afghanistan or elsewhere in the Southwest Asia Theater of Operations at any time since August 2, 1990, or in Afghanistan or Djibouti, Africa, after September 11, 2001 to participate in a study about burn pits and any other airborne hazards they may have been exposed to while deployed (such as smoke and fumes from open burn pits or oil well fires; fuel, exhaust or other mechanical fumes, and sand, dust or other air pollution). This study is funded by the Veterans Administration Office of Health Outcomes of Military Exposure and will help to help make improvements to the Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry. The one-hour interview will take place over Zoom. Participants will be asked to answer questions about deployment-related exposures and current health status. Participants will receive a $60 electronic gift card for participating. All of your answers and everything you say will be kept secure and will not be shared with anyone outside the study team.
