Description
Paunchy Elephant is looking for great people to represent us at local farmers markets. If you love local, handcrafted, organic food, have a passion for people, value community engagement and enjoy working outside, we want to meet you! Our Farmer's Market Representatives, “Marketeers”, are the eyes, ears, face and heart of Paunchy Elephant at local farmers markets. Marketeers set up the stands before markets, break down after market, maintain the stand, making sure it's always stocked with teas, lemonades, and barbecue sauce for selling as well as sampling by guests. Marketeers pack products to order and complete transactions (some cash, some electronic via Square or QR code). Marketeers use a company-issued smartphone/iPad and use it to ring up customer purchases through Square app. Paunchy Elephant provides the card reader. During markets Marketeers answer customer questions about our products and educate customers about what it means to be certified organic, fair trade certified, and operate sustainably. Most importantly, marketeers build relationships with customers by engaging with enthusiasm, a touch of humor, and tons of warmth and presence as farmer's market customers are often some of our most exciting, most loyal, repeat customers. They adopt early and enjoy following our journey from scrappy startup to what we know will someday be a trendsetting food and beverage company that not only has great-tasting products with quality ingredients but cares about and gives back to the community and environment. During market season, we often sign up for more than one market. It's possible and likely that we will need two individuals per market to drive and drop off/ pick up market supplies in our company cargo van before and after the market shift, work the shift, then return supplies afterwards. Farmer's Market work is physical and includes extended periods of standing as well as walking. Marketeers will need to be able to use repetitive hand movements, and frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs. The market is outdoors, rain or shine, and punctuality as well as engaging customers throughout the event is paramount. Qualifications Must love food and local food systems Previous experience in food and beverage is preferred, but not required. Strong communication skills and personable nature Clean and organized, and can work with a sense of urgency Ability to multitask Punctual Can stand for long periods of time and work in a variety of weather conditions Starting pay is $25/ hr plus $5 per shift product credit. We would love to have two people start with the Sunday Fremont Market, then increase hours to cover the upcoming Renton Market Tuesday evenings if there's interest.
