Nassau Police Investigating Car Fire At Protest Site

MERRICK, NY — Nassau County police are investigating a small car fire that started at a protest site in Merrick early Friday morning. According to police, officers and the Merrick Fire Department responded to the fire inside a car parked at the Merrick LIRR station at 12:24 a.m. The Merrick Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said the fire was small and contained only to the car. Police are investigating to see if it was arson. Ryder added that the car belonged to one of the protesters, who was a Nassau County resident. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
