Description
MERRICK, NY — Black Lives Matter protesters returned to Merrick Wednesday night to march in support of Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times in the back by police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Merrick became a site of multiple protests in June after marchers were confronted by white residents who told them to turn around and not to march down their streets. Multiple protests were held in Merrick over the following weeks, with thousands of people marching through the streets.
Hoping to recapture some of that energy, the group LI Peaceful Protest organized a march for justice for Jacob Blake Wednesday night. The march started at 6:30 p.m. and made a loop around Merrick's streets, starting and ending at the LIRR station.
More than 100 people turned out to the protest, which remained peaceful throughout.
