Starting October 5, construction will affect all areas of Centennial Park as drainage, pathways, landscaping, lighting, green space, restrooms and pavilions are upgraded and new playground equipment is installed. The renovation of Centennial Park brings the nearly 30-year-old facility up to date with modern, accessible-to-all facilities and amenities. All areas of the park will be closed during construction.
As the city's most visited outdoor attraction, the 11-acre park is located in historic Downtown Fort Myers on the scenic banks of the Caloosahatchee. Centennial Park is a year-round destination, attracting more than 250,000 citizens and visitors annually. The project connects the park, play and performance spaces with the new Caloosa Sound amphitheater, directly across from the recently-opened Luminary Hotel and Caloosa Sound Convention Center.
Funding for the park renovations was made possible in part by a $1,000,000 appropriation by the Florida state legislature. Anticipated costs of the project are $3,250,000, with anticipated completion in late spring 2021.
