Description

In this training the Center would like to invite our campus partners to review our Safe Zone II curriculum before roll out in the fall. What is Safe Zone?Safe Zone training is a national training program which helps to give allies the education and tools to create change and make spaces safer for all queer and trans* (QT) students. This training program is a three-plus-part training and begins with Safe Zone I: QT 101. In this section of Safe Zone II: Unpacking Intersectionality the curriculum will focus on the ways in which queer and trans people experience a multitude of discrimination and oppression at the intersection of their QT identity as well as other marginalized identities. Safe Zone II and Safe Zone III are designed to think more critically through intersections of identity and what it means to be an active ally versus a performative ally. What will I get out of this training? At the end of this training, participants should be able to: Understand what intersectionality means and how this relates to their own lived experiences and the lived experiences of QT individualsReflect on the LGBTQ history they are familiar with, along with learning new moments and people through LGBTQ history in the US from the Stonewall Uprising in 1969 to presentUnderstand specific barriers facing QT people living at the intersections of marginalized identities, along with key people in these movementsIdentify ways in which they can incorporate Safe Zone II material into active allyshipAdditionally, your Safe Zone II workbook includes a glossary with key terms and people, a reading list for further learning, and a list of local resources.
