Physical Security Assessments and CPTED - The Basics
As a best practice, house of worship security teams are encouraged to conduct physical security vulnerability assessments on a regular basis. The purpose of the assessment is to gather information needed to determine appropriate security upgrades and/or modifications. Detective Sean Cronin and Threat Mitigation Officer Rick Gramer will use the first hour of the meeting to teach the concepts of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). In addition, they will explain how security teams can use the Department of Homeland Security's Houses of Worship Security Self-Assessment tool to conduct their own assessments.
Participants will have an opportunity to practice using the self-assessment tool during the second half of the meeting. Working together, participants will conduct a physical security assessment of the training facility. You will utilize the assessment tool to identify vulnerabilities and offer recommendations for security upgrades. Our goal is to equip you with the necessary tools that will allow you to conduct an effective and comprehensive security assessment at your own house of worship. Part of this training will include walking the perimeter of the building so please dress comfortably. Lunch will not be provided for this training but you are welcome to bring your own food.
We hope you can make it!
